Docteur Maurice DONAT
The Arnault Tzanck Group

Dr. Donat later built the Arnault Tzanck Group at the Mougins site, in a 10-acre (four-hectare) park where the following institutions were later established: the Clinique Médicale Plein Ciel, Clinique Chirurgicale l'Espérance, and Centre de Convalescence et de Soins de Suite Saint Basile (convalescent and follow-up care center), as well as a "3S" retirement residence, self-dialysis unit, multidisciplinary outpatient center, radiology and breast care center, physical therapy and thalassotherapy center, cancer center (radiotherapy and chemotherapy), and nuclear medicine center.

The social service activities of Institut Arnault Tzanck extend throughout the Alpes-Maritimes département, with six home care services for seniors, accommodating 490 people in 97 communes, a home care nursing service for 30 AIDS patients to monitor and administer triple therapy, pain management, and palliative care, a home hospitalization service for 30 patients, two retirement homes accredited by the organization, Aide Sociale aux Personnes Âgées (one in La Tour sur Tinée and one in Guillaumes), and one computed tomography (CT) scanner in Grasse (within the framework of an economic interest group involving the Centre Hospitalier de Grasse and private radiologists of Rive Droite du Var).

Dr. Donat died in January 1985. He left us a highly effective and unique medical and surgical establishment and knew how to give his successors the momentum necessary to continue his works.

Docteur Jean-Marie SALVADORI
Executive Director

Born on March 26, 1913, in Murasson (Aveyron), France, Maurice Donat pursued his medical studies at the Montpellier Faculty of Medicine, then, in 1942, began his surgical practice in Nice.

Inspired by humanitarian concerns, he courageously played an active role in the French Resistance, in which he was named the attending surgeon for Alpes-Maritimes and the southern Maquis of Basses-Alpes (currently Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).

Creation of the Centre Médico-Chirurgical
of Institut Arnault Tzanck in Saint-Laurent-du-Var

After creating the first blood donor center in the Alpes-Maritimes département, in collaboration with the Alpes-Maritimes Volontaires du Sang, a blood donor association, Donat, concerned about providing quality medical care to the residents of the département, created the Centre Médico-Chirurgical (Medical and Surgical Center), which he inaugurated in 1972 in the presence of the prefect, R. G. Thomas. The Centre Médico-Chirurgical was named after Arnault Tzanck in homage to his pioneering work in blood transfusion.

Subsequently, Institut Arnault Tzanck grew very quickly under the impetus of Donat, who brought the latest innovations in medicine, as well as high quality medical teams, to the institute.

Many other institutions and activities led by non-profit organizations (as defined by the French legislative Act of 1901) have been realized at Institut Arnault Tzanck, including the Hemodialysis Center, Medical and Social Service Center, Medical Imaging Center, and Outpatient Center, among others.
